CIML Conference basketball standings

It was another good week for the unbeaten Johnston girls’ basketball team.

After rolling to a 91-32 victory over visiting Urbandale on Tuesday, the top-ranked Dragons moved a step closer toward the CIML Conference title with a 43-31 win at No. 3 Dowling Catholic on Friday. Aaliyah Riley had 15 points and five steals for Johnston, which only needs to win four of its last six conference games to wrap up the league title.

On Saturday, the Dragons raised their overall record to 15-0 with a 75-51 triumph over Millard West (Neb.) in a game played at Sokol Arena in Omaha. Millard West is ranked No. 1 in Nebraska.

On the boys’ side, No. 5 Waukee suffered its first conference loss on Tuesday, dropping a 65-63 decision to visiting Dowling Catholic. But the Warriors rebounded with a 56-35 victory at Waukee Northwest on Friday and still own a 2.5-game lead over No. 2 Valley and No. 6 Ankeny Centennial with five games left to play.
