Because of the gap between the winter and spring sports seasons, this seemed like a good week to do something a little different with the Ankeny Fanatic prep of the week feature sponsored by Revive Clinic and Spa.
Here’s an interview with Special Olympic athlete Jack Lincoln, a junior at Ankeny Centennial:
Congratulations on winning two gold medals in powerlifting earlier this month. Were you happy with your performance?
Thank you. Yes, I was happy. I think I did well for my first time trying powerlifting.
I understand you were the first powerlifter ever from Centennial to compete. What made you want to try this sport?
My dad and I go to the gym three or four times a week. We do weightlifting all the time. Sometimes we do cardio too. I like lifting weights. We thought powerlifting at Special Olympics was a good thing to try.
Did you think you’d be successful at it?
Yes. I thought I would do well.
I know you’ve competed in a lot of different sports such as basketball, bowling, cycling and track and field. Which one is your favorite, and why?
Powerlifting and cycling are my favorites. I like powerlifting because it is easy for me, and I like cycling because it is fun.
Which events do you like in track and field? Are you more of a runner or thrower?
Probably a thrower. Running is not my favorite. I did the softball throw before. I am trying shot put this year.
Do you compete primarily for fun, or is your main goal to win?
Mostly for fun, but I like gold medals too.
Are there any other sports you’d like to try?
Shot put and powerlifting are my new sports for this year. I am not sure if I will try something new later.
Did you do anything fun over spring break?
We went to Tennessee. We stayed in Pigeon Forge. I rode rollercoasters and other rides at Dollywood.
