Ankeny Centennial distance runner Brendan Owens has signed a letter of intent to compete for Wartburg College.
Owens, a senior, will join the Knights’ men’s cross country and track teams in the fall.
“I looked at four schools,” said Owens. “Once I got down to two, the decision was pretty tough. But I really liked Wartburg’s program and coach.”
Owens helped the Jaguars to a 14th-place finish in the Class 4A state cross country meet last fall. He placed 78th in the 5k race with a time of 16 minutes 46 seconds.
Owens will be reunited with former Centennial teammate Tyler Schermerhorn, who is a sophomore distance runner for the Knights.
“I’ve gotten to know the team over the last two years because Tyler goes there,” Owens said.
