Three Ankeny Centennial girls’ golfers posted scores in the 90s to lead the Jaguars to a seventh-place finish among 13 teams in the Linda Bloom Invitational on Thursday at Elmwood Country Club in Marshalltown.
It was the third meet in three days for Centennial, which posted a season-low total of 386.
“It was a cold and windy day!” said Centennial coach Marty Kiepe. “But overall, I was pretty happy with the team effort today. We are really starting to see some consistency top to bottom in the lineup.”
Pleasant Valley shot a 325 to win the team title, its second of the week. The Spartans also won the Linn-Mar Invitational on Tuesday.
Waukee Northwest took second with a 331. Marshalltown was a distant third with a 366.
Cate Trewet carded a 91 to lead Centennial. She placed 18th as an individual.
“Cate was just a handful of strokes out of the top 10,” Kiepe said.
Maddy Gochoel fired a 95 for the Jaguars.
“Maddy just made her varsity debut on Tuesday, and she came out today and shot a new personal best!” Kiepe said. “This is Maddy’s first time below 100. She may not be the longest hitter on our team, but she doesn’t find herself in much trouble. I’m super proud of how far she’s come this year!”
Gretta Borich also broke 100 for the first time, finishing with a 99.
“She continues to improve and is quick to shake off the bad holes,” Kiepe said.
Madi Trosper shot a 101 for the Jaguars. Isla Corron had a 104, and Teagan Skinner added a 106.
Centennial will compete in the Dragon Invitational on Monday at Jester Park.
“We’re ready for a few days off after a busy week, but we’ll be ready to go bright and early Monday morning,” Kiepe said.
