The Ankeny Centennial girls’ tennis team faced off against three top-10 squads in the Valley Quadrangular on Monday.
Top-ranked Dowling Catholic, No. 5 Valley and No. 7 Iowa City West also competed in the meet, which consisted of two singles and four doubles flights.
“We did well!” said Centennial coach Alli Gustafson. “The invitational had some tough competition in it, which was great for us to gain more match experience against tough competition going into districts next week. We are preparing to finish up our regular season meets this week as we look forward to individual and team regionals.”
Three of Centennial’s doubles teams each went 1-1 on the day. Here are the Jaguars’ match-by-match results:
No. 1 Singles–Talia Baca lost to Allexis Moen (V), 6-1, 6-0; lost to Maggie Shin (ICW), 6-1, 6-0.
No. 2 Singles–Mayci Rasmus lost to Anna Vasi (ICW), 6-2, 6-3; lost to Ella Johnson (DC), 6-1, 6-3.
No. 1 Doubles–Samara Peterson-Megan Yuan beat Marie Stier-Claire Hahn (ICW), 7-5, 6-0; lost to Juju Mauro-Grace Frye (DC), 6-1, 6-0.
No. 2 Doubles–Jenna Benkufsky-Ara Lofgren beat Kate Songer-Raegan Reuter (V), 7-5, 7-5; lost to Presila Edward-Victoria Bakros (DC), 6-4, 6-2.
No. 3 Doubles–Gabby Mixdorf-Mary Faidley lost to Sophia Keeney-Madelyn Dalton (V), 7-5, 6-2; lost to Delmira Jara-Grace Wang (ICW), 6-0, 6-0.
No. 4 Doubles–Rozzie Sterling-Kalyani Bhat lost to Montserrat Lepe-Tayven Carter (V), 7-5, 6-2; beat Madison Rice-Hannah Murphy (DC), 6-4, 6-4.
The Jaguars will host a CIML Conference meet on Wednesday against Southeast Polk, which is 0-6 in the league and 0-7 overall. The meet was postponed from Tuesday due to rain.
