Four Ankeny divers competed in the Marshalltown Diving Invitational on Saturday, providing a preview of next month’s state meet.
“This meet is known for being a great test before the postseason as it works like a mini-state meet for many,” said Ankeny diving coach Chris Amundson. “Of the top 20 divers in the state, 10 of them participated.”
Ankeny’s Kambelle Subbert placed 20th with a total of 277.55 points. Miranda Gagne took 22nd with 276.00 points, Gabby Gagne was 27th with 259.75 points, and Isla Corron finished 30th with 239.85 points.
“This was our first invitational of the year, and I was very happy with our performance,” Amundson said. “Of the four girls I took, Isla and Kambelle had never participated in an 11-dive meet and they both completed the meet, which is a huge step for new divers. Miranda had a personal best in an 11-dive meet, and Gabby has made an amazing comeback to a full list after hitting the board earlier this year in Mason City.
“I am very proud of all of them and think now that they understand how this type of meet works, they will strive to improve before the conference and regionalĀ meets,” he added.
Camryn Russell of Grinnell easily won the meet with 475.45 points. Dowling Catholic’s Audrey Doud was a distant second with 382.70.
