Former Ankeny Centennial football standout Brody Targgart has committed to play for one of the top FCS programs in the country.
The 6-foot-2, 290-pound defensive lineman announced over the weekend that he will play for South Dakota State. He has two years of eligibility remaining along with a redshirt year.
Targgart helped Iowa Western Community College to an 11-2 record this season. He recorded 24 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 14 games over the last two years.
The Reivers lost to Hutchinson Community College, 28-23, in the NJCAA Division I national championship on Dec. 18 at Canyon, Texas.
SDSU went 12-3 this season and reached the semifinals of the FCS playoffs before dropping a 28-21 decision at North Dakota State. The loss ended the Jackrabbits’ bid for a third consecutive national championship.
Head coach Jimmy Rogers then departed a week later to take over the program at Washington State. He posted a 27-3 record in two seasons at SDSU.
Dan Jackson was hired to replace Rogers. The Omaha native previously played and coached at SDSU.
In 2024, Jackson became a defensive coordinator for the first time when he joined the coaching staff at Idaho under former Jackrabbit colleague Jason Eck. He also coached the linebackers for a Vandals squad that advanced to the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs.
Jackson recently was tabbed to become defensive coordinator at New Mexico under Eck before taking the job at SDSU.
