
The Ankeny boys’ bowling team ended its season on Tuesday with an eighth-place finish in a Class 3A district tournament at Plaza Bowl in Sioux City.
Ankeny finished with a score of 2,098. The Hawks bowled a 178 in their fifth baker game and surpassed 150 in five other games, but averaged just 127 in the other nine games.
Waukee won the team title with a total of 3,360. Waterloo West placed second with a score of 3,260 and also qualified for next week’s state tournament, which will be held at Cadillac XBC in Waterloo.
Ankeny’s Preston Carr placed 25th in the individual competition with a three-game series of 576. He bowled a 224 in his first game.
George Inman bowled a 434 series. Joel Hansen had a 421, Aiden O’Conner rolled a 368, Anders Peck had a 338, and Keaton Lang added a 324.
Logan Brustkern of Johnston was the individual champion with a 720 total, edging Luke Barnard of Waukee by five pins. The top eight individuals advanced to state.
