The odds of a Jag-Hawk rematch in the Class 3A championship game of the girls’ state soccer tournament improved considerably on Thursday.
Both fourth-ranked Ankeny Centennial and No. 6 Ankeny advanced to Friday’s semifinals with victories at Cownie Soccer Complex. The Jaguars posted a 3-2 win over No. 5 Council Bluffs Lincoln, while the Hawkettes rolled to a 3-0 triumph over No. 3 Linn-Mar (Marion).
The semifinals will be an all-CIML affair. Centennial will play No. 1 Waukee at 4 p.m., and Ankeny will face No. 7 Dowling Catholic at 4:15 p.m.
The winners of those two games will meet in Saturday’s title match at 3 p.m. The Jaguars defeated Ankeny, 3-2, in last year’s final.
