The Ankeny Christian Academy baseball team is enjoying the best season in school history.
The Eagles lead the Bluegrass Conference with a 13-0 record and are 20-1 overall, setting a new ACA mark for most wins in a season. The previous record of 19 victories was set in the 2017-18 season.
ACA’s only loss came in the first game of a doubleheader at Southeast Warren on June 5. The Eagles dropped a 6-5 decision before posting a 2-1 victory in the nightcap, which ignited the team’s current 14-game winning streak.
ACA has won six games by 10 or more runs, including a 22-5 triumph at Seymour on June 4. The Eagles have posted nine shutouts and have allowed only two combined runs in their last eight games.
Junior Malachi Johnson has been one of the team’s top hitters and pitchers. On the mound, he has compiled a 4-1 record with a 0.93 ERA and 60 strikeouts. At the plate, he is batting .436 with eight doubles, three triples and eight RBIs.
Senior Cale Leever is batting .409 and has knocked in 22 runs. He hit the Eagles’ lone home run of the season.
Senior Keenan Jacobs is batting .304 with six doubles and 18 RBIs. Freshman Eli Christensen is batting .429 with four doubles and 15 RBIs.
Leever is also 6-0 on the mound with a 0.51 ERA. Christensen is 4-0 with a 1.25 ERA.
ACA will play at Orient-Macksburg at noon on Wednesday. The Eagles will then play at Saydel at 7:30 p.m.
ACA has been placed in Class 1A District 8 by the Iowa High School Athletic Association. The Eagles are joined in that district by B-G-M (Brooklyn), Grand View Christian, Lynnville-Sully, Melcher-Dallas, Montezuma, North Mahaska (New Sharon) and Twin Cedars (Bussey).
