Former Ankeny quarterback Blaine Hawkins already held most of Central College’s passing records.
Following Saturday’s game at Simpson, Hawkins owns a couple more marks.
The senior passed for a school-record seven touchdowns to lead the Dutch to an 84-16 victory. He completed 22-of-24 passes for a school-record 424 yards–all in the first half.
Late in the second quarter, Hawkins fired a 38-yard scoring pass to Jeff Herbers to give Central a 56-3 lead at halftime. It was his 100th career touchdown pass.
Central (4-0), ranked No. 13 by the AFCA and No. 14 by D3football.com, scored the most points in a game in school history. The Dutch set a pair of American Rivers Conference records with 556 yards passing and 789 yards of total offense.
Remarkably, Central needed just 7:26 of possession time in the game’s first 30 minutes to score eight touchdowns.
“I thought our guys did a great job of executing on offense and defense,” coach Jeff McMartin said. “We played really well together as a team, and I’m very happy with their effort.”
