Some technical issues created some havoc in the DouBrava Invitational on Tuesday at Urbandale, resulting in a long night for the Ankeny boys’ track team.
The Hawks eventually finished fourth in the seven-team field. They scored 73 points.
“The timing system didn’t work for some of the meet,” said Ankeny coach Nick Nelson. “Our times won’t qualify for Drake.”
Johnston easily won the meet with 183.5 points. Urbandale was second with 87.
Ankeny’s lone victory came in the long jump. Cade Pederson won the event with a leap of 19-6.5, edging runner-up Caden Wilson of Johnston by 3 inches.
Tyson Miller placed second in the 100 in 11.38 seconds. Tyler Sickerson was the runner-up in the 200 in 24.63.
Sickerson also teamed up with Aidan Adamson, Ben Sandvig and London Schuchart for a second-place finish in the distance medley relay. The Hawks posted a time of 3:50.38.
Ankeny also placed second in the 4×800 relay. The foursome of Christian Rathje, Abel Squires, Levi Hill and Jake Bosch was clocked in 8:16.00.
Landon Pote and Cash Schoolen each cleared the bar at 5-8 in the high jump. They placed third and fourth, respectively.
Aidan Farrell took fourth in the 3,200 in a time of 10:56.00. Teammate Nicholas Robie was fifth in the same event in 11:10.00.
