Alli Macke didn’t have much time to celebrate her school record in the 800-meter run.
About 24 hours after breaking that mark during the Jaguar Invitational at Ankeny Stadium, Macke scored three goals on Friday to lead the Ankeny girls’ soccer team to an 8-0 victory over visiting Indianola in a non-conference game.
“She’s had a cool couple of days,” said Ankeny coach Simon Brown. “She broke the school record on Thursday, and then tonight she gets the hat trick. She’s really working overtime. It’s important to find as much rest as possible for her.”
Macke also had two assists as the second-ranked Hawkettes improved to 8-0 on the season. Indianola’s record dropped to 3-7.
Ankeny held a 5-0 lead at halftime, then added three more goals in the second half. Teja Pritchard had two goals and an assist, while Kennedy Macke added a goal and an assist.
Jerra Christensen scored the team’s other goal. Avery Matthews contributed an assist.
“We had to make a few changes because we had a couple injuries from playing Monday and Tuesday, so we started a couple kids in different positions and it took us awhile to figure out the wind,” Brown said. “But we eventually were able to click.”
Brown was able to use 22 different players in the game. Goalkeepers Jasmine Moser and Taevah Ganahi each had a save, combining on the shutout.
“Indianola had the strong breeze in the second half, and there were a couple of funky bounces that we had to deal with,” Brown said. “Anytime the ball bounces it favors the forward.”
The Hawkettes continued their impressive streak of clean sheets. They still have yet to allow a goal this season.
“Everyone knows about it. It’s a cool thing that we’re working toward,” Brown said. “You could hear the girls cheering at the end of the game because they don’t want to give up a goal. They know that we haven’t given one up all year, and it’s something we want to protect. It’s a strange thing that doesn’t happen very often. I don’t really want to talk about it, but they love it.”
Ankeny will host a CIML Iowa Conference game against Mason City (5-3) on Tuesday. It will be the Hawkettes’ Senior Night.
