The official high school qualifiers for the 2022 Drake Relays have been announced.
Ankeny has qualified in nine girls’ events and seven boys’ events. Ankeny Centennial has qualified in five girls’ events and four boys’ events.
Ankeny senior Tyrese Miller is the second-fastest qualifier in the boys’ 400 with a time of 49.58 seconds. He also qualified in the 100, while teammate Carter Accola has qualified in the 110 hurdles.
The Hawks qualified in four relay events and are among the 10 fastest qualifiers in all of them. They own third-fastest time in the 4×200 relay with a clocking of 1:29.68, and will also compete in the 4×100, 4×400 and 4×800 relays.
Centennial’s Isaiah Valentine qualified in the boys’ long jump. Teammate Sam Dietz will compete in the shot put.
The Jaguars also qualified in the 4×100 and 4×200 relays.
Ankeny juniors Hannah Baier and Kendra Winfrey are among the top qualifiers in the girls’ throwing events. Winfrey is seeded fourth in the shot put with a toss of 41 feet 4 inches, while Baier is seventh in the discus with a throw of 129-0.
Freshman Alli Macke is the fifth-fastest qualifier in the 800 with a time of 2:17.56. She set a school record in that event on Thursday at the Jaguar Invitational.
Drew Beason qualified in both the 1,500 and 3,000. Teammate Reagan Hanfelt will compete in the high jump.
The Hawkettes also qualified in the 4×100, 4×400 and sprint medley relays. They own the fifth-fastest time in the 4×400 with a clocking of 4:02.82.
Centennial’s Rondi Quass qualified in both the 1,500 and 3,000. She is seeded seventh in the 3,000 and 12th in the 1,500, one spot ahead of Ankeny’s Beason in both events.
Kylin Smith qualified in the 400 hurdles. The Jaguars will also compete in the 4×100 and 4×800 relays.
