Elmwood Country Club sometimes gets the best of the golfers who play on the Marshalltown course.
That was the case on Thursday for the Ankeny Centennial girls’ golf team.
The Jaguars placed fourth among 17 teams in the Linda Bloom Invitational. They posted a score of 394.
“Today, the course beat us up a little,” said Centennial coach John Petersen. “We struggled on the greens and had too many three-putts. I felt like our ball striking was good enough to score in the 370s, but the greens were fast and difficult.”
Third-ranked Marshalltown shot a 330 to easily win the team title for the second straight year. Southeast Polk was the runner-up with a 384, followed by Waukee Northwest with a 392.
Amber Henson of Marshalltown carded a 4-over-par 74 to defend her individual crown. Rylee Heryford of Newton was the runner-up with a 75.
Centennial’s Payton Drefke fired a 90 to place fifth as an individual. Teammate Vivian Wilson was 12th with a 93.
Kaitlyn Ault shot a 104 for the Jaguars. Olivia Joensen carded a 107, Grace Miller had a 112, and Tessa Woerdehoff finished with a 122.
Centennial will play in the Dragon Invitational on Monday at Jester Park.
