Ashtyn Billings and the Ankeny softball team enjoyed a big day on Wednesday at Marshalltown.

Billings (2-2) tossed a three-hitter and had five strikeouts to lead the Hawkettes to a 12-0 victory in six innings in the first game of a CIML Iowa Conference doubleheader. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in three runs.

Billings then went 4-for-4 with a double and one RBI as Ankeny routed the Bobcats, 22-2, in three innings to complete a sweep. It was the fourth straight win for the Hawkettes, who improved to 6-4 in the league and 7-4 overall.

Marshalltown dropped to 0-8 on the season. Only one of the Bobcats’ eight conference games has gone the full seven innings.

Ankeny used a seven-run second inning to build an 8-0 lead in the first game. The Hawkettes later scored four runs in the sixth.

Kendra Winfrey went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Kennedy Palmer went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI, while Eva Fulk went 2-for-4 and scored twice.

Praze Buchan knocked in two runs in the win. Aubrey Lensmeyer doubled and drove in a run.

In the nightcap, the Hawkettes jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning. They added 10 runs in the second and five more in the third.

Mariah Parton went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and four runs scored. Winfrey and Fulk each went 2-for-3 with a double and had four and three RBIs, respectively.

Abby Rusher went 2-for-2 with a double and drove in three runs. Palmer doubled and had three RBIs, while Lily Hans and Jadyn Filling each had two RBIs.

Winfrey (4-1) was also the winning pitcher. She combined with Delaney Sondgeroth on a four-hitter.

Ankeny, which moved into the No. 15 spot in the latest Class 5A rankings on Thursday, will play in the Creston Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
