Four Ankeny Centennial boys’ soccer standouts have received all-state honors from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association along with a pair of Ankeny stars.
Senior forward Lucas Newhard of Ankeny and sophomore midfielder Ty Duax of Centennial were both selected to the Class 3A first team. Junior forward Rashidi Ishibwami of Centennial and senior goalkeeper Kyle Pederson of Ankeny were both second-team picks, while sophomore forward Andrew Heckenlaible and senior defender Evan Larson of Centennial received honorable mention.
Newhard led the Hawks to a 19-2 record and an appearance in the state tournament. He scored a school-record 36 goals and also had eight assists.
Duax helped the Jaguars to a 16-4 mark and a trip to the Class 3A semifinals. He racked up 16 goals and 20 assists this season.
Ishibwami led Centennial with 22 goals. He also contributed nine assists.
Pederson helped Ankeny to the CIML Iowa Conference title. The Hawks posted 11 shutouts, including seven in a row during one stretch midway through the season.
Heckenlaible was part of the Jaguars’ potent offensive trio, teaming up with Duax and Ishibwami to amass 154 points. He scored 14 goals and had 21 assists.
Larson was the leader of Centennial’s defensive unit. The Jaguars posted 11 shutouts.
