Ankeny Centennial outside hitter Delainey Winkel has verbally committed to play volleyball at the University of Dubuque.
Winkel said she looked at some schools in Florida and North Carolina before deciding to look at schools in the Midwest.
“I thought it was a better fit for me. I realized I wanted to be closer to home,” she said. “I looked at several schools in Iowa, but UD seemed like the right fit for me! After visiting the school, I knew it was the right school for me because of the great coaching staff, the nice facilities and the smaller college size.”
The senior has helped the sixth-ranked Jaguars to a 10-4 record this season. She is in her third year on the varsity and has racked up 333 career kills.
Winkel currently leads Centennial with 84 kills and 15 aces. She has also recorded 43 digs.
Winkel contributed 108 kills as a sophomore in 2020. She then had 141 kills, 79 digs and 18 blocks as a junior, when she helped the Jaguars to a 30-10 record and a trip to the Class 5A state tournament.
