Only 29 points separated the top four girls’ track teams in the Craig Oldham Invitational on Tuesday at Johnston.
Waukee Northwest won the meet for the second straight year, finishing with 139 points. The host Dragons were second with 120 points, followed by Ankeny Centennial in third with 115 and Southeast Polk with 110.
“We were really happy with the effort we saw out of all of our athletes,” said Centennial coach Tyler Asbe. “We are seeing improvements in all areas and are really excited about the direction our team is going.”
Centennial won five events, including a 1-2 finish in the long jump. Jaeden Pratt took the event and met the Blue Oval Standard for the Drake Relays with a leap of 18 feet, while Kambria Leazer was the runner-up at 16-7.5.
The Jaguars swept the two distance races. Rondi Quass won the 1,500 in a time of 5:02.12, and Anika Mohrhauser captured the 3,000 in 11:13.91.
Centennial set a school record while winning the 4x 400 relay. The foursome of Mya Crawford, Maddy LaVoi, Julia Flick and Kylin Smith was clocked in 4:01.06.
LaVoi, who tied for second place in the high jump at 5 feet, also ran on the winning distance medley relay. She teamed up with Pratt, Malin Vallejo and Quass to post a time of 4:24.21.
The Jaguars will compete in a meet at Waukee Northwest on Thursday.
