Ankeny Centennial junior pitcher Joey Oakie has received a pair of honors from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.
Oakie, an Iowa recruit, was one of 16 players from across Iowa to be named to the 2023 All-State Super Team. He was also selected the captain of the Class 4A all-state team.
Oakie compiled a 7-3 record with a 1.13 ERA and 91 strikeouts while leading the Jaguars to a school-record 30 victories and a share of the CIML Conference title. He also batted .341 with one home run and 20 RBIs.
Four other Centennial players also earned all-state honors from the Coaches Association. Senior catcher Nick Severson was named to the Class 4A first team, senior pitcher Easton Pratt and senior outfielder Easton Miller were both second-team picks, and senior first baseman Damin Churchman was a third-team selection.
Severson batted a team-high .463 with two homers and 27 RBIs. The Iowa Central recruit led the Jaguars with 12 doubles.
Pratt posted a 7-1 mark with a 0.76 ERA. A Minnesota State-Mankato commit, he limited opposing batters to a .154 average.
Miller batted .330 and knocked in 18 runs. The Iowa State football recruit belted a team-high three homers, which came on three consecutive at-bats late in the regular season.
Churchman batted .377 with two homers, eight doubles and a team-high 33 RBIs. The Upper Iowa recruit also tied for the team lead in triples with three.
Oakie was joined on the Super Team by three other players from the CIML Conference–outfielder Tyne Weeden of Class 4A champion Johnston and outfielder Beau Gamble and utility player Trevor Baumler of Dowling Catholic. North Polk pitcher Reece Wrage, a junior, was also named to the squad.
The Comets also placed junior pitcher Hunter Cook on the Class 3A first team and senior utility player Nick Cox on the third team.
