Ankeny senior point guard Carson Johnson reached the 1,000-point career milestone during the Hawks’ loss to visiting Waukee on Thursday.
Johnson had 24 points in the game, including a 3-point goal with 5 seconds left that allowed him to surpass the milestone. He has now scored 1,002 points in his career.
Johnson is believed to be the 10th player in Ankeny High School history to reach the 1,000-point mark. Hall of Famer Ray Fontana holds the school record of 1,899 career points, which he set from 1947-50.
As a freshman, Johnson scored 138 points in the 2020-21 season. He scored 228 points as a sophomore and 359 last season.
Johnson has scored 277 points this season while leading the Hawks to an 8-3 record. He leads Class 4A with an average of 25.2 points.
