No. 10 Bondurant-Farrar tops Ankeny wrestlers in title match at Ewing Duals

The Ankeny wrestlers placed second among three teams in the Dave Ewing Duals on Saturday at Ankeny.

The Hawks opened the tournament with a 67-6 victory over Spencer before falling to Bondurant-Farrar, 48-19, in the championship match. The Bluejays are ranked 10th in Class 3A.

Ankeny’s overall record dropped to 7-8 on the season.

The Hawks won 13 of the 14 matches against Spencer. They recorded nine falls and a major decision.

In the loss to Bondurant-Farrar, Ankeny won two of the four matchups between rated opponents. One of the Hawks’ victories came at 106 pounds, where sixth-ranked Ben Walsh rolled to a 15-5 major decision over No. 7 Coby Fiser.

Ankeny also got a big win from Isaac Wignall, who is ranked 10th at 113. He moved up to 120 and posted a 9-6 decision over No. 11 Reid Foster.

Truman Folkers, who is ranked sixth at 126, moved up to 132 to face No. 3 Connor Fiser. Fiser posted a 5-2 decision.

The other matchup of rated wrestlers came at 157, where No. 5 Jack Lewis posted a 5-3 decision over No. 11 Teagen Peiffer.

No. 4 Ben Hansen had a pair of falls for the Hawks at 144. Walsh, Wignall, Aiden Winkie and Perez Perez also went 2-0 on the day.

Ankeny will host a CIML Conference dual meet against Waukee Northwest on Tuesday. The meet will be held at Southview Middle School.
