The Ankeny bowling teams turned in some strong performances while hosting the CIML Conference meet on Wednesday at Great Escape.
In the individual portion of the meet, Sam Tigges placed third and Gavin Johnston added an 11th-place finish for the Hawks. On the girls’ side, Ankeny’s Olivia Harris took eighth for the second straight year.
Tigges bowled games of 210, 246 and 224 for a 680 total. Johnston’s Caden Klug (741) and Roman Boley (701) were the only bowlers to finish ahead of Tigges.
“I did really well,” said Tigges. “I averaged 226 between the three games, which was a lot better than my average currently.”
Johnston also earned all-conference honors with a 617 series. He bowled games of 219, 216 and 182.
Ankeny’s Jackson Roberts finished with a 526 total. Jarrett Hansen had a 465, Jamal Miller bowled a 455, and Zane Shoning added a 446.
Harris, meanwhile, bowled a 195 in her final game to finish with a 499 total. She bowled a 178 and 126 in her first two games.
“I am happy with my placement,” said Harris. “Considering out of 42 female bowlers, they only took the top 16 (for all-conference) and I got eighth. I would say that is impressive. However, I know I could have done much better than I did, and I’m ready for the girls’ district meet come Monday!”
Ankeny’s Kali Ogg bowled a 420 series. Lili Sinclair rolled a 384, Savannah Dye had a 382, Brooklyn Dietz posted a 337, and Ava Johnson finished with a 325.
Valley’s Veronica Hamlet won the girls’ individual title with a 559 total. Waukee’s Wren Starmer was the runner-up with a 547.
In the team competition, which consisted of 15 baker games, the Ankeny boys’ squad placed sixth among the seven schools with a total of 2,602. Southeast Polk easily won the title with a score of 3,087, finishing 183 pins ahead of Waukee.
The Ankeny girls’ team placed seventh overall with a score of 1,924. Waukee won the crown with a 2,365 total, edging Valley by 13 pins.
