The Ankeny Centennial boys’ track team won the Class A division and also captured the overall crown in the Steve Roth Relays on Thursday at Washington.
The Jaguars racked up 175 points in the large-school division. Mediapolis won the Class B title and placed second overall among 28 teams with 152 points, while Columbus Junction took the Class C crown and finished third overall with 141.
“We were able to sneak into a meet that was not originally on our schedule,” said Centennial coach Nate Smith. “This may be the earliest we’ve competed outdoors.”
Centennial won six events on the day, including the 4×100 relay. The foursome of Elijah Porter, Connor Welsch, Lawson Langford and Max Snyder posted a time of 43.26 seconds.
Robert McGhee took the 200 in 22.87, while Jackson Reed won the 400 in 52.97. AJ Schermerhorn captured the 3,200 in 9:35.23.
Cael Woods won the 400 hurdles in 57.20. He also placed second in the 110 hurdles in 15.24.
Blaine Sandquist took the discus with a throw of 149 feet 3 inches. Max Dickinson was the runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 45-7.
Kaleb Kruzich added a second-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 5-10. Brendan Owens was second in the 1,600 in 4:40.05.
The Jaguars got third-place finishes from Braeden Jackson in the 200 (23.15), Zech Howe in the 400 (53.33) and Mark Nelson in the 400 hurdles (1:00.84). Snyder and Noah Ross tied for third in the 100 in 11.28.
