The Ankeny Centennial boys’ track team earned a fourth-place finish in the Brooks Relays on Saturday at Valley, while the Ankeny boys’ and girls’ squads both finished fifth in their respective divisions.
Dowling Catholic won the boys’ meet with 124 points, 42 more than Valley. Centennial scored 70 points, finishing 10 points ahead of the Hawks in the 15-team field.
The Ankeny girls’ squad, meanwhile, finished with 74.5 points. Waukee Northwest won the 13-team meet with 120 points, finishing 16 points ahead of Valley.
The Jaguars won the boys’ 4×200 relay with a time of 1:30.53. That team consisted of Robert McGhee, Connor Welsch, Elijah Porter and Max Snyder.
Porter also ran on the runner-up sprint medley relay, where Centennial was edged by Waukee by .07 seconds.
JJ Morgan placed second for the Jaguars in the long jump. He recorded a leap of 22 feet 6 inches.
Welsch placed third in the 100 in 11.44 seconds. Teammate Noah Ross finished third in the 200 in 23.32.
Ankeny’s Ethan Zuber won the 1,600 in a time of 4:23.84. He also ran on the distance medley relay, where the Hawks edged Centennial by .27 seconds for second place.
Landon Pote took the high jump. He cleared the bar at 6 feet 2 inches.
In a matchup of two of the state’s top 400 runners, Johnston’s Jashua Anglo edged Ankeny’s Jack Belding to win the event in 49.38. Belding was the runner-up in 49.76.
The Hawks got a third-place finish from Hayden Carlson in the 110 hurdles. He was clocked in 15.91.
In the girls’ division, Ankeny won the 4×800 relay in a time of 9:53.97. That team consisted of Makenna Madetzke, Gwen Briggs, Lauren Jackson and Sophia Graber.
The Hawkettes also won the 4×400 relay in 4:08.86. That unit was comprised of Sophie Loeffler, Morgan Johnson, Lillian Buckley and Alli Macke.
Drew Beason placed third in the 1,500 in 4:50.92. Mila Badillo was third in the high jump at 5-1.
