The Ankeny Centennial girls’ track team earned a runner-up finish in the Craig Oldham Invitational on Tuesday at Johnston.
Waukee Northwest won the meet for the third straight year, racking up 167 points. Centennial finished with 121.5, while the host Dragons took third in the eight-team field with 97.
“We had a great weather night that allowed for some strong performances,” said Centennial coach Tyler Asbe.
Freshman Anna Woods won a pair of events for the Jaguars. She took the 100 hurdles in 15.42 seconds and the high jump at 5 feet 1 inch.
Centennial’s 4×800 relay team placed second in a time of 9:37.05, finishing just .32 seconds behind Waukee Northwest. The squad consisted of Bella Hodges, Anika Mohrhauser, Julia Flick and Kylee Patterson.
“Our mid-distance and distance girls had an outstanding night,” Asbe said. “The 4×8 team ran a huge season-best. We are seeing progress every week with our middle distance group. They are working really hard and have been super consistent with their training. All four of the girls PR’d in this race, so it was nice to see them all put it together on the same night.”
Mohrhauser came back later to win the 1,500. She was clocked in 4:49.20, which easily broke her personal record.
“It was super encouraging to see her come back after an 800 PR and look that strong,” Asbe said. “It speaks volumes about the training she has put in and the toughness she has.”
Haley Hveem placed second in the 3,000 in 10:47.44, while Ellie Blevins finished third in the same race in 11:15.78. Flick added a third-place finish in the 400 in 1:02.07.
Jaeden Pratt was the runner-up in the long jump at 16-7. Ava Barten took fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:10.16.
“Ava had her season debut in the 400 hurdles and ran a super tough race,” Asbe said. “She only ran that event once or twice last year so it’s a pretty new event for her, but we loved the way she attacked the race and she has some great potential in that event.”
Centennial added a second-place finish in the 4×200 relay in 1:48.58.
The Jaguars will compete in the Waukee Northwest Relays on Thursday.
