The Waukee Northwest boys’ soccer team entered Tuesday’s game at Ankeny with a lot of momentum.
Unfortunately, the seventh-ranked Hawks were unable to slow down the No. 3 Wolves.
Northwest scored two goals in the first 11 minutes and went on to post a 3-0 victory in the CIML Conference game. It was the fourth consecutive shutout for the Wolves, who improved to 4-1 in the league and 7-2 overall.

“Waukee Northwest was superior in every aspect of the game,” said Ankeny coach Trevor Fuccio, whose team was held scoreless for the second straight contest.
Northwest took an early 1-0 lead when Ayden Gabrielson found the net just 2:08 into the first half. He dribbled around two Ankeny defenders, then rifled a shot past goalkeeper Jackson Dockendorff and just inside the right post.
About 9 minutes later, the Wolves added another goal when Abdullah Iqbal connected off a cross from Aiden McGinness. McGinness then scored a third goal in the second half.

The Hawks dropped to 2-3 in the conference and 7-5 overall.
“We have to take a long look in the mirror, and that starts with me,” Fuccio said. “We were a ghost of ourselves.”
Ankeny will try to rebound on Thursday, when the Hawks host a non-conference game against Carlisle (8-3). The Wildcats are ranked 10th in Class 3A.
