The Mason City boys’ tennis team showed on Monday why the Riverhawks are sixth in the latest Class 2A rankings.
Mason City traveled to Ankeny for a make-up meet against the Hawks and rolled to an 11-0 victory in the non-conference matchup. The Riverhawks then went to Waukee and beat the Warriors, 8-3, in a meet that was already scheduled.
“They are very deep,” Ankeny coach Ron Miller said of Mason City. “They deserve their ranking.”
Mason City improved to 10-2 on the season, while Ankeny’s record dropped to 2-6. The Riverhawks handed Waukee (6-2) just its second loss while extending their winning streak to six matches.
