The Ankeny girls’ golf team ended its season on Wednesday with a sixth-place finish in a Class 4A regional meet at American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.
The Hawkettes posted a 391 total.
“I’m so proud of all the work the girls did this year!” said first-year Ankeny coach Kelley Emke. “We set a goal of getting more consistent as a team and individually at the beginning of the year. We have definitely made huge strides toward that goal especially toward the end.”
Western Dubuque shot a 333 to capture the team title. Marshalltown placed second in the 10-team field with a 353 and also qualified for the state meet, which is slated for May 23-24 at Otter Creek.
Natalie Henson of Marshalltown carded a 76 to earn medalist honors. McKenna Stacki of Western Dubuque was the runner-up with a 79.
Junior Isabella Ross shot a 92 to lead the Hawkettes. Addison Smith fired a 93, and fellow senior Gracie Block had a 104.
“It is always hard to say goodbye to our seniors,” Emke said. “Addie and Gracie are wonderful leaders, and I’m so thankful for all they did this season. This group will always be special to me as the first one I coached at AHS. I’m looking forward to continuing our growth into next year!”
Ankeny’s Ava Sesker carded a 102, her best round of the season. Aubree Moeller shot a 127, and Catherine Nelson added a 132.
“Today was a great way to end the season,” Smith said. “It was a gorgeous day to play, and I’m very proud of my team and how we all did. My teammate Ava shot a PR, and I was extremely proud of her. Today was an emotional day being my last meet, but I was happy to finish the season strong with one of my best meets of the year!”
