Ankeny Centennial boys’ soccer standout Ty Duax has joined his father in an exclusive club.
Duax, a senior midfielder, has earned all-state honors from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association for the third time, landing a spot on the Class 4A first team. He was a Class 4A second-team pick as a junior after being named to the Class 3A first team as a sophomore.
Duax becomes a three-time all-stater, a rare accomplishment that his father–Centennial coach Brian Duax–also achieved while playing for Valley in 1997-99. Brian was a first-team pick all three years.
“Very few players can say they were three-time all-staters,” said Brian Duax. “It’s pretty cool that we were both able to do it.”
Duax led the Jaguars this season with 12 goals and also had five assists. The Western Illinois recruit finished his career with 43 goals and 43 assists.
Duax holds the school records for most career assists and points (129). He tied the school record for most career goals that was previously set by his former teammate, Andrew Heckenlaible.
Duax’s brother, Tate, also earned all-state honors along with two Ankeny standouts, Landon Benge and Dylan Gloviak. Benge joined Ty Duax on the Class 4A first team, while Tate Duax and Gloviak were both named to the second team.
Benge, a junior forward, led Ankeny with 14 goals and also had four assists. He helped the Hawks to an 11-9 record and a trip to the Class 4A state tournament.
Gloviak, a junior defender, was a leader for a defensive unit that recorded six shutouts. He also contributed one assist.
Tate Duax, a sophomore midfielder, joined the Centennial team at midseason and helped the Jaguars to a 5-12 mark. He had two goals and a team-high six assists.
