The Ankeny Centennial baseball team had to settle for a split on Saturday against visiting Sioux City North.
After fifth-ranked Centennial posted a 5-0 victory in the opener of a non-conference doubleheader, the Stars rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to earn a 4-3 win in the second game that allowed them to avoid a sweep.
The Jaguars are now 25-10 on the season. North improved its record to 23-17.
Centennial’s Sean Stewart (6-1) pitched a four-hitter and had six strikeouts in the first game. He needed just 82 pitches to go the distance.
Emerson Alberhasky went 1-for-2 and had three RBIs for the Jaguars. Preston Glatt went 2-for-3 and drove in a run.
Joey Oakie and Jackson Reed also went 2-for-3. Oakie and Isaac Bruhl each doubled and scored a run.
In the nightcap, North’s Jack Mogensen went 3-for-4 and knocked in two runs. His brother, Josh, scattered eight hits to earn the victory, allowing just one earned run.
Colton Arndt (0-1) took the loss in relief of Carter Smalley. Smalley allowed three earned runs on seven hits and had two strikeouts over six-plus innings.
Bruhl went 3-for-4 with a double and had two RBIs. Kohen Bollwinkel also drove in a run.
Reed Anderson went 2-for-3. Glatt went 2-for-4, and Leyton Kolln had a double.
The Jaguars will host a CIML Conference doubleheader against Urbandale (14-19) on Monday. They posted a 7-4 win at Urbandale on June 13.
