The Ankeny boys’ golf team shot a 305 in a CIML Conference triangular meet on Wednesday at Jester Park, losing to both Johnston and Southeast Polk in the process.
The Dragons posted a 292 total to edge Southeast Polk by two strokes. The Hawks fell to 1-5 in the conference.
“We had some good (scores) and some that were not so good today,” said Ankeny coach Mike Weddingfeld.
Johnston’s Andrew Johannsen carded a 3-under-par 69 to earn medalist honors. Southeast Polk’s Ty Potter was the runner-up with a 70.
Ankeny was again led by Duncan Beelner, who fired a 71 to place third overall.
“Duncan played another great round for us,” Weddingfeld said. “He has been very consistent this year and continues to lead the team. Three birdies, two bogeys and 13 pars is a nice round.”
Caden Weddingfeld shot a 75 for the Hawks. He had a 2-under 34 on the front nine.
“Caden put up another solid round for the team,” said his father. “He didn’t like the way he finished with a double bogey on 18. He had a bad break off the tee where he was trying to hit a fade and caught a branch. It kicked out of bounds and he made a 6, but that was the only blemish on his card all day.”
Ankeny’s Gavin Ross carded a 79. Evan Hodapp had an 80, while Ryan Constable and Kyler Crimmins each shot an 83.
“Gavin played another round right at his average. He would like to get some rounds in the mid to low 70s, but he has been very consistent for us and that is important,” Weddingfeld said. “Evan had a great front nine and then had two bad holes on the back that really affected his score. He has been solid for us all year so I expect one off round to just motivate him more to keep working hard and improving.”
Ankeny will return to Jester Park on Wednesday for its final conference triangular meet of the season, this one against Dowling Catholic and Waukee.
