The Ankeny girls’ swimming team ran into the state’s No. 1 squad on Tuesday at Dowling Catholic.
The potent Maroons won 10 of the 12 events and posted a 122.5-63.5 victory over No. 8 Ankeny in a CIML Conference dual meet. It was the third consecutive loss for the Hawkettes, who dropped to 2-3 in the league and 6-4 overall.
The highlight of the meet for Ankeny came in the 100 backstroke, where the Hawkettes posted a 1-2 finish. Madison Trosper won the event with a time of 1:05.24, while Leah Schafer was the runner-up in 1:06.25.
Ankeny’s other win came in the 100 butterfly, where Charlie Villhauer edged Dowling’s Sassy Hassett by .23 seconds. Villhauer won the race in 1:01.42, while Hassett was clocked in 1:01.65.
Gracie Lindaman placed second for the Hawkettes in the sprint events. She posted times of 25.78 seconds in the 50 freestyle and 56.29 in the 100 freestyle.
Allie Kearney took third in the 200 individual medley in 2:28.77. She later finished third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:18.40.
Paige Spoelstra added a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle. She turned in a time of 2:07.05.
Ankeny opened the meet with a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay. The foursome of Trosper, Kyra Zinn, Villhauer and Lindaman posted a time of 1:56.00.
The Hawkettes later took second in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Lindaman, Spoelstra, Zinn and Villhauer was clocked in 1:45.04.
Ankeny closed out the meet by placing third in the 400 freestyle relay. The quartet of Spoelstra, Trosper, Schafer and Maggie Blackmore posted a time of 3:56.81.
The Hawkettes will travel to Indianola on Thursday for a non-conference dual meet against the Indians.
