Former Ankeny football standout Jamison Patton recorded his second career interception on Saturday to help unbeaten Iowa State to a 28-16 victory at West Virginia.
Patton, a sophomore defensive back, picked off a pass from quarterback Garrett Greene late in the third quarter when Iowa State held a 14-10 lead and the Mountaineers were threatening to score. He returned the interception 14 yards.
Patton also had a pick last year during a win at BYU. The Cyclones’ 26 interceptions since 2023 are tied for the second-most in college football.
Jontez Williams later sealed the win with another interception. He picked off a pass for the third straight game, becoming the first Cyclone to do so since Braxton Lewis (2018) and the first in league play since DeAndre Jackson (2005).
Iowa State is 6-0 for the second time in school history and the first time since 1938. The Cyclones moved up to No. 9 in this week’s Associated Press rankings.
Iowa State is 3-0 in Big 12 play for the first time since 2020 and the third time overall (2002). The Cyclones have won a school-record six straight conference road games, tied for the third-longest active streak in the country.
Iowa State will host UCF (3-3) on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Jack Trice Stadium.
