It didn’t take long for Ankeny Centennial running back Braeden Jackson to accept a preferred walk-on offer from the Iowa football program.
Jackson committed to play for the Hawkeyes on Friday–just four days after receiving the offer.
“Other than Iowa Western giving a scholarship, Iowa was the only other offer or PWO on the table at the moment,” said Jackson. “Although I had interest from other places, Iowa was always going to be my first choice.”
Jackson, the son of former NFL running back Fred Jackson, led the Jaguars to an 8-3 record and a trip to the Class 5A quarterfinals this season. He ran 173 times for a school-record 1,397 yards and 22 touchdowns while catching 19 passes for 288 yards and three more scores.
Jackson was named to the Class 5A all-state first team by the Iowa Football Coaches Association. He was a repeat pick to the District 1 first team.
As a junior, Jackson helped Centennial to a 7-5 mark and a Class 5A semifinals appearance. He rushed for 669 yards and eight touchdowns while racking up 354 yards and four scores through the air.
