The Ankeny girls’ bowling team needed only two meets to equal its victory total from last season.
Ankeny defeated visiting Dowling Catholic by a score of 2,083 to 1,826 on Thursday at B-Roll Bowling. The squad improved to 2-0 in the CIML Conference and overall, while Dowling’s records dropped to 0-2 and 1-2.

Ankeny also topped the Maroons last year by a similar margin–2,088 to 1,805.
“The varsity girls are surpassing my expectations for the beginning of the season,” said Ankeny coach Nick Payton. “We are not nearly close to mid-season form, and they are doing well working together and bowling as a team.”
Brooklyn Dietz led the way with a 289 series, followed closely by Olivia Harris with a 287. Savannah Dye bowled a 278 total, Johanna Shaw had a 277, Kali Ogg rolled a 258, and Ava Johnson added a 233.

Dowling won the boys’ meet by a score of 2,350 to 2,285. The Maroons raised their records to 1-1 and 2-1, while Ankeny fell to 0-2 and 0-2.
“The boys are continuously improving weekly and working to build on picking up spares,” Payton said.

Ankeny’s Preston Carr led all bowlers with a 367 series. Manolo Paloma led Dowling with a 353 total.
George Inman bowled a 310 series for Ankeny, followed by Gavin Johnston with a 308. Sebastian Cook bowled a 277, Kolbie Backous had a 253, and Joel Hansen finished with a 247.
Ankeny will now have a four-week layoff before hosting Valley in a conference meet on Jan. 9 at B-Roll Bowling.
