Ankeny senior Caden Weddingfeld will continue his golf career at Coe College in Cedar Rapids.
Weddingfeld, the son of longtime Ankeny coach Mike Weddingfeld, said he was really impressed by Eric Karius–who coaches both the men’s and women’s teams at Coe.
“I had talked to several different coaches, but just found that the Coe coach was the most active in my recruitment,” said Weddingfeld. “He was all around just a great guy I would want to be coached by.”
There were other factors in his decision, too.
“Coe had probably the best athletic facilities out of the colleges I visited, and I get access to a lot of great golf courses as well,” Weddingfeld said. “Overall, Coe checked all my boxes and was the best fit for me.”
Weddingfeld was named to the academic all-state team by the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association after helping Ankeny to an eighth-place finish in the Class 4A state meet last season. He tied for 18th as an individual with a two-day total of 154.
Weddingfeld placed third among the Hawks with a 38.97 average for nine holes.
