
Ankeny boys’ basketball standout Rio Aguirre has been unanimously selected to the CIML Conference first team.
Aguirre, a junior guard, led the Hawks to a 10-12 record this season. He averaged a team-high 20.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game–the only player in Class 4A to average 20, 5 and 5 in those three categories.
Aguirre also led his squad with 45 3-point goals and 12 blocks. He accounted for more than half of his team’s made and attempted free throws, shooting 84.3 percent from the line (129-of-153).
Sophomore guard Jasani Campbell of Ankeny was named to the all-conference second team. He averaged 12.4 points and 3.9 rebounds while leading the Hawks with 27 steals.

Senior guard Luke Anderson of Ankeny was a third-team selection. He was joined on the squad by a pair of Ankeny Centennial players–senior guard Sean Tunks and sophomore forward Evan Abbott.
Anderson averaged 7.0 points per game. He shot 42.0 percent from 3-point range, going 37-of-88 from behind the arc.
Tunks helped the Jaguars to a 5-17 mark. He averaged a team-high 12.5 points and 5.1 rebounds while also leading the squad with 32 3-pointers, 31 steals and 11 blocks.

Abbott played in just 11 games before suffering a season-ending injury. He averaged a team-high 12.3 points in the first half of the year.
Senior guard Cabryn Klingner of Centennial earned all-conference honorable mention along with junior guard Drew Sorensen of Ankeny.
Valley, which won its third consecutive Class 4A state title on Friday, placed four players on the first team. They are senior center Trevin Jirak, senior guards Kiki Deng and Zay Robinson, and junior guard Jayden McGregory.
Class 4A runner-up Waukee Northwest had three first-team selections. They are senior guards Bode Goodman and Peyton McCollum and junior forward Landon Davis.
Junior forward Evan Jacobson of Waukee was also named to the first team along with junior guards Tino Daye of Johnston and Noah Martens of Dowling Catholic. Jacobson, Jirak and Goodman joined Aguirre as unanimous picks.
