Both the Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial girls’ track teams earned top-10 finishes in the IATC Indoor Championships on Friday at the Lied Recreation Athletic Center in Ames.

The Hawkettes placed fourth with 47 points, while the Jaguars finished ninth with 27. Waukee Northwest claimed the title with 67 points, edging Cedar Falls by two points.

Ankeny was led by junior Makenna Madetzke, who posted a time of 4:41.08 to win the 1,500 by .14 seconds over Pleasant Valley standout Ani Wedemeyer. Madetzke set a meet record and also met the Blue Oval Standard for the Drake Relays.

Centennial’s Bella Hodges took sixth in that event. She was clocked in 4:54.34.

The Hawkettes’ other victory came in the high jump, where Reagan Hanfelt cleared the bar at 5 feet 4 inches to earn the victory. Teammate Mila Badillo placed sixth at 5-1, while Centennial’s Anna Woods also jumped 5-1 and tied for third based on fewer misses.

Ankeny double-placed in the long jump as well. Ava Leinen took third with a leap of 16-7.5, and Maya Durbin-Wilson was sixth at 16-2.

The Jaguars got a third-place finish from Anika Mohrhauser in the 3,000. She posted a time of 10:22.60.

Morgan Fisher placed fourth for the Hawkettes in the 200 in 25.93. Teammate Lillian Buckley was sixth in 26.35.

Those two also helped Ankeny to a third-place finish in the 4×400 relay. They teamed up with Charlee Cibula and Madetzke to post a time of 4:06.98.

Centennial placed fifth in the 4×100 relay and finished sixth in the 4×800.
