The Ankeny boys’ tennis team competed against three other squads at the Johnston Invitational on Saturday. Norwalk and Waukee also participated along with the host Dragons.
Ankeny’s Garrett Weichers won all three of his matches to win the No. 2 singles flight. That was the highlight of the day for the Hawks.
Weichers posted a 10-1 win over Waukee’s Yatharth Sirohi. He defeated Johnston’s Aadil Patel and Norwalk’s Corbin Oswald by identical 8-3 scores.
Dylan Victor went 1-2 at No. 1 singles. He defeated Norwalk’s Drew Lents, 8-3.
“With a bad blister on his palm, Dylan could only manage one win,” said Ankeny coach Ron Miller.
The No. 1 doubles team of Grady Schlosser and Michael Black also went 1-2 on the day. They edged a team from Norwalk, 6-5, for the Hawks’ lone win in doubles on the day.
Ankeny will play Ankeny Centennial in a CIML Conference matchup on Tuesday.
