Coming off a season-best score in the Toni Dickey Invitational on Thursday at Otter Creek, the Ankeny girls’ golf team was hoping to play just as well in the Lamson Invitational on Monday at Willow Creek.
Unfortunately, it didn’t happen.
The Hawkettes shot a 384 and finished 11th in the 17-team field.
“We didn’t play quite as well today,” said Ankeny coach Kelley Emke. “I think 384 is still a good score, but we know as a team we can still do more.”
Marshalltown posted a 320 total to win the team title, edging defending champion Ames by two strokes. Norwalk was third with a 348.
Marshalltown’s Natalie Henson fired a 6-under-par 67 to capture medalist honors for the second straight year. She had an eagle on the par-5, No. 12 hole and went on to finish eight shots ahead of runner-up Emersen Motl of Ames.
Sophomore Aubree Moeller carded a 90 to lead Ankeny, including a 43 on the front nine. She had a personal best for the second meet in a row.
Isabella Ross had a 95 for the Hawkettes, while Madalyn Ross shot a 96. Ava Sesker fired a 103, Catherine Nelson had a 110, and Ava Clarkson added a 115.
“We’re starting to get in the groove,” Emke said. “We’re excited to focus in this week with just one more meet and come back strong at Veenker next week.”
The Hawkettes will host Ankeny Centennial and Valley in a CIML Conference triangular meet on Wednesday at Otter Creek.
