
Sophomore Owen George was a bright spot for the Ankeny Centennial boys’ tennis team on Wednesday.
George provided both of his squad’s victories during the Jaguars’ 9-2 loss at Waukee. He posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Koen Krehbiel at No. 5 singles, then teamed up with Brennan Dickinson for a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Maanas Garimella and Elijah Thole at No. 3 doubles.
The best match of the meet came at No. 4 doubles, where the Waukee duo of Krehbiel and Hudson Schmidt outlasted Centennial’s Crew Brazeau and Kale Hurd in a pair of tiebreakers. They won by a score of 7-6 (1), 7-6 (2).
The Warriors improved to 4-3 in the CIML Conference. Centennial finished 0-8 in the league and dropped to 0-10 overall.
The Jaguars will compete in a Class 2A district tournament on Wednesday at Ames.
