The Ankeny girls’ swimming team cruised to a first-place finish in the Ankeny Quadrangular on Thursday at Trail Point Aquatics Center.
The seventh-ranked Hawkettes racked up 648 points while raising their overall record to 7-6 on the season. No. 24 Newton was second with 496 points, followed by Des Moines Roosevelt with 424 and Indianola with 323.
“It was nice to host the quad meet at home and swim against some non-CIML teams and get some wins,” said Ankeny coach Dustin Rhoads. “The girls got to swim some different things, and I thought they competed very hard. I was really happy with the divers’ performances as well. We had a lot of PRs, and their confidence is growing heading into the 11-dive meet (Saturday) at Johnston!”
Ankeny swept the top three places in the diving event. Isla Corron won the event with 210.25 points, Kambelle Subbert was the runner-up with 207.45, and Olivia Luna took third with 151.70.
The Hawkettes also got individual victories from Maggie Blackmore and Abigail Brugman. Blackmore took the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:02.03, while Brugman captured the 100 butterfly in 1:05.92.

Blackmore also placed second in the 100 freestyle in 56.79. Brugman was the runner-up in the 50 freestyle in 26.54.
Allie Kearney took second in a pair of events. She posted times of 1:06.38 in the butterfly and 1:05.30 in the 100 backstroke.
Alivia Dacey placed second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:19.78. Piper Hedrick took second in the 200 individual medley in 2:23.46.
Hedrick also placed third in the backstroke. She was clocked in 1:05.70.
Ankeny also got third-place finishes from Addy Mason in the 200 freestyle (2:12.15), Avery Anderson in the 200 IM (2:30.92), Charlie Villhauer in the 50 freestyle (27.06) and Madi Trosper in the 500 freestyle (5:58.82).

The Hawkettes opened the meet by going 1-2 in the 200 medley relay. The foursome of Trosper, Kearney, Villhauer and Brugman won the event in a time of 1:56.99.
Ankeny later ended the meet with another victory in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Brugman, Blackmore, Trosper and Villhauer was clocked in 3:48.20.
The Hawkettes placed second in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:48.45. That team consisted of Adi Dee, Kearney, Hedrick and Blackmore.
“The season is winding down quickly, but I am pleased with where our team is at and confident we will continue to grow and improve and be our best at the end of the season!” Rhoads said. “We are looking forward to the Johnston Invite Saturday and Senior Night on Tuesday (against Southeast Polk) to close out our regular season!”
