The Ankeny Centennial boys’ tennis team rolled to a 10-1 victory over Des Moines Roosevelt on Tuesday at Waveland, avenging last year’s loss to the Roughriders.
“We had a huge turnaround,” said Centennial coach Tami Lewton. “Last year we lost to them, 8-3, but with some really hard work by the guys during our offseason, we have really improved. I was really proud of them.”
The Jaguars’ only loss came at No. 4 singles, where Roosevelt’s Alex Shay won a three-set match against Centennial’s Samson Densmore.
“He really battled, though,” Lewton said of Densmore. “He was behind the entire first and third sets, but just kept battling.”
Will Blevins, Sam Marold and Ryan Lofgren each won their singles matches in straight sets for the Jaguars.
“Those three all turned in solid performances at 1, 2 and 3, respectively,” Lewton said. “Last year Ryan was our lone singles win.”
Centennial improved its record to 2-0 on the season. The Roughriders dropped to 1-1.
The Jaguars will host Valley on Thursday.
