The lineup for the Ankeny Centennial boys’ tennis team included a few new players on Tuesday.
Coach Tami Lewton gave seniors Haadi Majeed and Claudio Sanchez a chance to play on the varsity. They both won their doubles matches as the Jaguars rolled to an 11-0 victory at Des Moines East in a non-conference meet.
“It was great to be able to get all of our seniors into the match,” said Lewton. “We so appreciate their leadership off the court and now on it, and we also wanted to give Matt DenAdel a chance to play singles. It was a great, fun night.”
DenAdel posted a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Jordan Jack in the No. 6 singles match. The Jaguars (6-1) swept all six of the singles matches in straight sets.
Sanchez, a senior and exchange student from Mexico, teamed up with Matt Tressel for a three-set triumph at No. 4 doubles. They dominated the super-tiebreaker, 10-3.
Majeed combined with Samson Densmore for a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5 doubles.
“East is a nice, up-and-coming team and was good competition for some of our newer guys,” Lewton said.
It was the sixth straight loss for the Scarlets, who are now 1-6 on the season. Four of the losses have been shutouts.
