The Ankeny boys’ golf team struggled on one of the state’s toughest courses Tuesday, dropping a 324-343 decision to host Ames in a dual meet at Veenker Golf Course. The loss dropped the Hawks’ record to 0-2 in the CIML Central Conference.
Hunter Johnson led Ankeny with an 83, while Luke Parkinson shot an 84. Ty Roghair fired an 87, Dylan Taylor had an 89, Corbin Walker carded a 93, and Joey Newton added a 94.
Ames’ Sam Balsley shot a 76 to earn medalist honors. Teammate Connor Vanweelden, the Little Cyclones’ usual No. 1 player, was the runner-up with a 78.
