The rumor turned out to be true.
Arland Bruce IV, a three-star recruit who is committed to Iowa, has officially transferred to Ankeny High School and will play football for the Hawks this season.
Speculation had been growing for the last several days that Bruce was headed to Ankeny. But his transfer to the school was not approved until Friday morning.
Bruce has been a standout quarterback at Olathe (Kansas) North in the Kansas City area. He decided to move to Iowa for his senior season after the Kansas City, Kansas school district elected not to participate in fall sports due to COVID-19 concerns.
Bruce will now team up with Ankeny star Brody Brecht, a fellow Hawkeye recruit in the Class of 2021. Brecht, an all-state receiver, was named the state’s No. 5 senior prospect by The Des Moines Register earlier this week.
The 5-foot-10, 195-pound Bruce is the No. 630 overall prospect in the Class of 2021 and No. 42 among athletes, according to The 247Sports Composite. He was recruited by the Hawkeyes as a receiver.
Bruce racked up some impressive numbers in his three seasons at Olathe North. He ran for 4,685 yards and 67 touchdowns while passing for 1,642 yards and 21 scores.
Bruce committed to Iowa in late April after also receiving offers from Iowa State, Tulsa and Western Illinois. Brecht committed shortly thereafter.
