Ankeny distance runner Andrew Poock has committed to Wartburg College.
Poock picked the Knights over Central and Simpson. All three schools are members of the NCAA Division III American Rivers Conference.
“I looked at Iowa State first, but after looking at Central, Simpson and Wartburg I liked the feel of the smaller schools better,” Poock said. “I also get to run at the smaller schools which would help me meet more people.”
Poock has been one of the top runners on the Ankeny boys’ cross country team. He also competes in track for the Hawks.
Poock said it wasn’t an easy decision.
“Once I narrowed it down to (those three schools), it was a tough decision because I liked all the coaches and academic programs they had,” Poock said. “I chose Wartburg because my visit went really well. The professors were very fun to talk with and talking to the coach went really well.
“I felt like Wartburg was the best fit for me, and I already had some familiarity with their program and some of the guys on the team because I went to their summer cross country camp a couple years ago,” he added.
