

The Ankeny Centennial girls’ tennis team took second place in the Johnston Invitational on Friday. The tournament featured three of the top six teams in Class 2A.
Top-ranked Dowling Catholic won the team title. The No. 6 Jaguars edged No. 4 Valley for the runner-up spot after losing to the Tigers, 6-5, in their season opener on Tuesday.
Abbie Petersen led the way for Centennial. She easily won the No. 1 singles flight.
“Abbie dropped only two games on the day,” said Centennial coach Armando Espinosa.
Jordyn Gustafson also played well for the Jaguars. She placed second at No. 2 singles.
Centennial will host Marshalltown on Thursday. It will be the Jaguars’ CIML Iowa Conference opener.
