The Ankeny Centennial boys’ golf team finally got a chance to play.
After having two other meets postponed earlier in the week due to rain, the Jaguars placed fourth among 11 teams in the Joe August Invitational on Thursday at Elmwood Country Club in Marshalltown. They shot a 308.
Dallas Center-Grimes captured the title with a 291. Norwalk was second with a 296, followed by Indianola with a 307.
“The guys are approaching each event as we lead up to districts with the mentality of learning from any mistakes and try to be playing our best in Oct. 5,” said Centennial coach Andrew Reedy.
Joe Greazel of Marshalltown carded an even-par 70 on his home course to earn medalist honors. Kota Bentz of Norwalk was the runner-up with a 72.
Ricky Beckwith led the Jaguars with a ninth-place finish. He fired a 74.
Everett Bloyer shot a 77, Bennett Lewis had a 78, Charlie Knoll carded a 79, Kinnick Nelson shot an 80, and Nathan Grider finished with an 83.
“There were lots of positives from today and things we can learn from!” Reedy said.
Centennial will compete in the Valley Classic on Monday at Willow Creek.
